ABOUT ME

Mary Ellen completed both her undergraduate and graduate work at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, with emphasis on behavioral and cognitive-behavioral studies.  She received intensive training and experience through North Oakland Medical Center’s inpatient psychiatric and outpatient clinical facilities.  This provided her with a clinically diverse experience working with individuals of all ages, presenting a wide range of psychological issues.

She is currently serving as a private practitioner working with a broad spectrum of clients in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She is an owner-practitioner at Claystone Clinical Associates PLC after founding her own private counseling company,
Raybrook Counseling Group LLC.

Early in her treatment career she also found that many of her clients were also struggling with purpose of life issues in their pursuit of change.  Inspired by the writings of Viktor Frankl, Mary Ellen became interested in how even in our darkest hours, our negative life experiences can be utilized and leveraged in developing strategies for wellness.

In addition to relying on traditional treatment modalities, Mary Ellen is also a Certified Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapist,.  EMDR Therapy is effective not only in trauma work but can be used in treatment of many other disorders.

In addition to being a Certified EMDR Therapist , Mary Ellen is a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC), with a certification through the Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals. She is a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA), is a National Certified Counselor  (NCC) and is an active member of the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC).  Additionally, Mary Ellen is a member of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals Foundation (IAEDP) and the Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy International Association (EMDRIA).
